Joe Kile

Joe Kile - Not So Long Ago (Kings Avenue, 2005)

With summer’s end rapidly approaching, let’s have one final toast to one of my favorite pastimes…front porch drinkin’.  This lovely little tune by Joe Kile moves lazily along like a twig in a stream.  Kile’s never in a rush; he likes to take his time and let the story unfold, like he’s telling it over a game of cards.  Not since Townes have I heard a sound so tender, so pure, and so downright heavenly.

Mama's Little Yella Pils

Oskar Blues - Mama’s Little Yella Pils

This summer sipper goes great with a ditty this sweet.  Not too complex, and completely devoid of pretention.  A great example of the style, it’s crisp and refreshing, with a solid malt backbone.  Hints of grass, honey and lemon play nicely together, with just a nibble of hops at the end.  Savor this one, and let’s raise a glass (or can) to one helluva summer.
